Reds Offseason Recap

Today we continue our NL Central off season recap by taking a look at what the Reds did this winter.

12-4-08: Re-signed Mike Lincoln to a 2 year contract.
12-9-08: Trade Ryan Freel, Brandon Waring, and Justin Turner to the Orioles for Roman Hernandez and cash.
12-11-08: Selected David Patton from the Rockies in the Rule 5 Draft, and traded him to the Cubs for cash.
12-12-08: Signed Arthur Rhodes to a 2 year deal. Non-tendered Matt Belislet, Gary Majewski and Norris Hopper.
12-15-08: Signed Laynce Nix to a minor league deal with invite to Spring Training, re-signed Norris Hopper to a one year contract.
1-7-09: signed Jerry Hairtson Jr. to a one year deal, re-signed Adam Pettyjohn to a minor league deal with invite to Spring Training, signed Jeff Kennard to a minor league deal with invite to Spring Training.
1-9-09: Signed Jonny Gomes to a minor league deal with invite to Spring Training.
2-2-09: Signed C Humberto Cota to a Minor League contract, with an invitation to Spring Training.
2-5-09: Signed Jacque Jones and Daryle Ward to minor league contracts with invites to Spring Training.

The Reds also lost Jeremy Affeldt and Corey Patterson to Free Agency.
I'd give the off season a 4 out of 10. They didn't make enough moves to improve. Every year everyone seems to think they are going to be in the race, but then they're not.
