Cubs Drop 4th in a Row

Final Score: Dodgers 5, Cubs 4

Cubs Starting Line-up Hitting:
Miles: 1-4, BB
Theriot: 1-3, BB
Lee: 0-3
Bradley: 1-2
Hoffpauir: 0-3, RBI
Scales: 1-3, BB
Hill: 0-3
Gathright: 0-3, 2 Runs, BB
Dempster: 1-1

Nobody had a multi-hit game but Joey Gathright looked good on the base paths again today. Aaron Miles started at 3B today. Both Miles and Gathright played the whole game which is good to see.

Cubs Pichers:
Demspter: 3 IP, Loss, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K
Vizcaino: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER
Berg: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER
Caridad: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB
Atkins: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER
Stevens: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 2 ER
Wells: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER
Schlitter: 1 IP, 1 BB, 0 H, 0 ER

Dempster hasn't pitched badly this spring, but he has allowed 5 Runs in 5 IP. It's really nothing to worry about, and 3 of those runs were unearned. Jeff Stevens, who is fighting for a spot in the bullpen, was wild today walking 3, allowing 2 hits, and 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning. Luis Vizcaino pitched well again, he has not allowed a run all spring.

Cubs off the Bench:
Barney: 0-1
Dubois: BB
Deeds: 1-1, RBI
Snyder: 1-3, Run
Taguchi: 0-1
Robnett: 0-1
Fox: 0-2

Richie Robnett has seen a lot of action this Spring, but is only hitting .125. Robnett, Deeds, Taguchi, Fuld, Dubois, and Snyder are all outfielders that there are no room for on the roster. Some of these guy will end up at the AA or even Class A levels because of the amount of outfielders we have.

Game Highlight: Cubs score twice with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, but the late rally falls a run short for the second straight day.

My Player of the Game: Brian Snyder for his 3 bagger that lead to a Cubs run.

Up Next: The Cubs take on the Brewers tomorrow at 2:05 CT on WGN-TV.

Other Cubs Notes:
  • Rich Harden is aiming to make his Cactus League debut on Tuesday against the Mariners according to Cubs.com.
  • The Cubs have made the first round of roster cuts by sending pitchers Andrew Cashner, Rocky Roquet, and Ed Campusano to Minor League camp.
  • Harden threw 43 pitches in a simulated game.
  • Paul Bako had a bloody nose yesterday because his mask cut him on a throw to second.
  • Kosuke Fukudome walked 4 times and scored a run in the WBC opener for team Japan.
  • Geovany Soto was 0-3 in a practice game for team Puerto Rico.
  • Team USA will play tomorrow VS Canada.
  • Ken Rosenthal reports that the Cubs are content with their bench players.
  • Ken also says that the new ownership may not be willing to add Jake Peavy's contract.
  • According to Jon Heyman Milton Bradley's two-year contract becomes a 3-year deal only if he plays at least 75 games in 2009.

I'll keep you posted on radio Recaps, position battles, Spring Games, Rumors, the WBC and more.
