Final Score: White Sox 7, Cubs 6
Cubs Starting Line-up Stats:
Soriano: 0-3
Theriot: 3-4
Ramirez: 2-3
J. Fox: 0-5, RBI
R. Johnson: 1-4
Hoffpauir: 1-4, Run
Fontenot: 2-4, 2 Run
Hill: 1-2, BB
Taguchi: 1-2, 2 RBI
Koyie Hill, Mike Fontenot, Ramirez, and Theriot were all on base at least twice. Soriano went hitless but did have a deep fly ball to the warning track to start the game.
Cubs Pitchers:
Samardzija: 3 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 K
Hart: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K
Waddell: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K
C. Fox: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER
Mathes: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER
Guzman: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 K
Patton: Loss, 2 H, 1 ER
Samardzija was not sharp. Chad Fox and J.R. Mathes were the only guys to toss shutout innings in relief.
Cubs Batters off the Bench:
Deed: 0-1, RBI
Barney: 1-1, RBI
Rivas: 0-2
Fuld: 0-1
Blanco: 0-1
Robnett: 1-1, BB, 2 Runs
Rich Robnett, an outfielder on the 40-man roster, was on base both times. Darwin Barney, a young SS, had a RBI off the bench. Luis Rivas, who is trying to make the team as a back-up infielder went 0-2 playing 3B.
Game Highlight: So Taguchi's 2 out, 2 run single in the 6th.
My Player of the Game: Ryan Theriot for his 3 hits.
Now for Game 2 in Vegas from Thursday:
Final Score: Sox 4, Cubs 3
Cubs Starting Line-up Hitting:
Soriano: 0-2
Fuld: 0-2
Ramriez: 0-2
Fox: 2-4, Run
Fontenot: 2-4
Deed: 0-4
Bako: 1-4, Run, BB
Rivas: 0-2
Blanco: 0-3
Not a lot of hitting for the Cubs in the second game. Ramirez 6 of the 9 guys in the starting line-up failed to reach base at all. Not too impressive.
Cubs Pitchers:
Heilman: 3 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 3 K, 0 ER
Mateo: Loss, 2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 K
Gregg: 1 IP, 1 BB, 0 H, 0 ER
Cotts: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER
Ascaino: 1 IP, 0 H, 2 K, 0 ER
Kadokura: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 ER
Heilman has done well in both outings so far, he's really surprised me and is definitely in the mix for the 5th starter. Cotts and Gregg, 2 guys that will be a key to the Cubs bullpen, both tossed scoreless frames.
Cubs Hitters off the Bench:
Robnett: 0-3
Hoffpauir: 1-2
Barney: 0-1
Theriot: RBI
R. Johnson: 1-1, 2 RBI
Not a lot of guys coming off the bench because of the split squad with half the team staying in Arizona.
Game Highlight: Cubs rally for 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but comeback comes up short.
My Player of the Game: Aaron Heilman for pitching 3 shutout innings.
I'll have a recap of today's game VS LAD coming up later on.
