Cubs 5, Indians 3, DeRosa 4

Final Score: Indians 7, Cubs 5

The Cubs would have won the game if Mark DeRosa's RBI still counted for them instead of for Cleveland.

Cubs Starting Lineup Hitting:
Soriano: 0-5
Theriot: 2-2, 2 BB, 2 Runs
Lee: 1-3
Bradley: 1-4, 3 RBI, Run
Ramirez: 2-4
Fontenot: 0-3
Soto: 0-3
Gathright: 3-4
Lilly: 0-1

Joey Gathright picked up 3 hits. Taguchi got sent to minor league camp today so it looks like Gathright is on the team. Not a good day for Soriano today, who went 0-5! Bradley hit a 2-run homer, his second of the spring.

Cubs Pitchers:
Lilly: 5 IP, 7 H, 8 K, 4 ER
Gaudin: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 3 ER
Patton: A 1,2,3 inning with 2 Ks
Cotts: 2 H, 1 K, 0 ER

Ted Lilly wasn't great today allowing 7 hits. David Patton should get a roster spot over Gaudin. There is no doubt Lou will make the right decision and take the guy with the 0.84 ERA over the guy with the 10.54 ERA.

Cubs Bench:
Blanco: 0-1
Hoffpauir: 0-2
German: 0-1, Run
R. Johnson: 1-1, 2 RBI, Run
Miles: 0-2

Reed Johnson had his second pinch hit homer of the spring. It was a 2-run shot in the 8th that brought the Cubs back into the game.

Former Cubs:
  • Kerry Wood pitched a shutout inning for the Indians.
  • Mark DeRosa had a monster day against his former club going 3-4 with 2 homers, a double, a sac fly, and 4 RBIs.

Game Highlight: It has to be DeRosa 2 long balls and double off his friend Ted Lilly.

My Player of the Game: I usually go with a Cub, but I'll count DeRosa as a Cub and give him the player of the game for his big day. David Patton my actual Cubs Player of the Game for today for his 1,2,3 inning. Patton is fighting for the Cubs bullpen.

  1. Indians fan here, thank you so much for Kerry and Derosa. I think they both are going to have great seasons for the Indians. I also think that with Mark's experience in the WBC and his play so far makes me think he could hit 20 Home Runs for us too. He should stick in that 2 spot, if he does, the Indians will be more productive in that 1-5 slots than they were last year. Good luck to the Cubs this year.

  2. Kevin- The Cubbies will miss DeRosa and Woody. In my mind, DeRosa will be more of a loss to the team than Kerry because Mark was are backup at almost every position, starting second baseman, and a great hitter. The Indians are the AL Team that I am going to cheer for this year because of DeRosa and Wood playing for them, and because I want to see them take the Central from the White Sox. Kevin- How about a Indians VS Cubs World Series???

  3. that would be awesome and something the whole world would see. We do get to visit Wrigley Field this year, so that should be fun to watch. I like the Indians' chances, but it still won't be easy. Hafner needs to perform this year, if he gives us 30 HRs and 100 RBIs that helps in so many ways. I would also like to see another starter step up and help Fausto and Cliff Lee. I think Anthony Reyes can do that, if he stays healthy. But our bullpen will be fun to watch. The Indians haven't had that bullpen closer that can completely shut down the opponets like Kerry can do since Jose Mesa. So I am excited about that, but like I said Derosa should help this team in more ways than just one. He will be playing all over, just like he did in Chicago, but with Mark mostly playing 3rd base. Hitting in that 2 spot, should only help the Indians too. I can't wait for the season, and your Cubbies should be fine this year. I am looking forward to seeing that matchup in October.
